BULLETIN NUMBER: SWB-002

DATE ISSUED: August 7, 2001

DATE CLOSED:

AFFECTED SYSTEMS: PowerMAX OS 5.0/5.1 Systems

PROGRAM NAME: PowerMAX OS Sysgen

RELEASE LEVEL: 5.0 & 5.1

EXPLANATION: The cd-rom installation script for PowerMAX OS 5.0/5.1 systems

contains an ambiguous instruction which may result in an incorrect interpretation of the

proper installation procedure. After the standard OS packages have been installed from

CD #2, the user is asked if he/she would like to install additional packages. This should

not imply the installation of the non-OS packages on CD #3. The prompt is intended to

give the user one last chance to add additional OS packages from CD #2 prior to

finishing the OS installation.

If the user attempts to install packages from CD #3, serious confusion follows.

RESOLUTION: A proper OS installation requires only CD #1 and CD #2. An internal

problem report has been issued to address the ambiguous messages and improve the operation

and clarity of the PowerMAX 5.x OS installation process.

Do not attempt to add non-OS packages from CD #3 until after the system is rebooted with the

new OS installed.
